Default need some recon owners input.

I'm looking to buy a new recon soon but i wanted to get some owners thoughts on the quad. My riding group has changed there style from fast trails to slower mud riding so i sold my 450 and have been riding my wife's can-am ds 250. my group has two rancher 420's and two honda foremans, I just want to keep up in the tight woods and hit some of the smaller mud holes. Anybody ride a recon with bigger quads? I keep up with the DS just fine but i get sick of getting all the mud thrown in my face. thanks.

The Recon is great for the twisty trails, very light and easy to steer, and if you lift the front end, it is a wheelie monster !!! Stock tires aren't real good for mud, with a set of Mudlites, you would be surprised what you can go through. Splash protection is great,my son rode one for over a year, and loved to hit puddles all day, barely got wet. Some prefer the Suzuki Ozark over the Recon, engine has a bit more power, but I can't comment my self, never rode one.

ok thanks for the input! my brother had a ozark that i took out a few times it was a blast to ride! I seen that Maxxis has the "zilla" tires in the recon's stock size so that would be my first mod.

In the tight woods, the light little Recon is probably faster than the bigger machines! Fortunately....I don't run in mud so I am no expert on this, but with the right tires it might do ok?????

Just before I got rid of my Recon, I put my old set of 12" rim/23" tires from my Wolverine on to see if they fit, not only did they fit, they looked great!! barely bigger than stock, and the 12" wheels made it look like a different quad. It handled better too, with the lower profile tires.

I had thought about 12" wheels with 23" swamp fox tires that would have to look, ride, and work better! I gonna have to move on one soon my dealer said they won't make the recon or the 500cc quads for 2010! bummer! they have new 2009 for 2500 otd.

Because sales are slow, they are not making new 2010's for many models...but that doesn't mean that there aren't still thousands of them in the warehouses. Honda dealers can now order quads on a monthly basis, so don't let them rush you with any BS.....

If you are on a budget, a 2wd Rancher would absolutely scream!!!

I can vouch for the Recon's performance and "toughness" by the fact that my neighbor used to own one, an 06 model, that he took everywhere that his older brother took his 500 Foreman. By that I mean, through every mudhole they could find in the local lake bottoms!

His was red but there were times he came in from riding that you could not tell what color the plastics were! He sold it only because he got where he couldn't pay for the loan.

We plan to buy a Recon for my son as he has out grown his TRX 90. I swear that boy must be eating some kind of fertilizer! LOL!!! Just kidding!

But he is growing up in height....fast!
