The bike was performing flawlessly and the gear indicator stopped show what gear your in to showing ( -- ).
If anyone knows what causes this please tell me.
It still shifts good but can see what gear I'm in.
I haven't even had the bike long enough to have put it through a real ride yet.

If the ESP system is still working then your problem doesn't sound like the gear position switch , does the neural light and reverse light work .... Did you buy the bike from a dealer ..?

 

I'll have look about the N & R lights
I did not buy from a dealer, I'm on my own.
The bike has less than 400 miles on it and never been under water.
Just hoping for a one time freak thing
It over at a friends house store in his outbuilding.
If you have a guess just please shout it out.
I just don't know where to start.

 

the gear indicator has been working and not working if it is not working right only 4th gear will show , when it works it is flawless.

I think I am having the same problem. After I start it it runs and shifts great. But after some time I will get the '--' and then it is locked in whatever gear I was in when the warning came on. This happens in all modes, D1, D2 and ESP. If I turn the ignition off, and restart it clears the issue, but just for a minute or so.

it also backfires and sputers in reverse.
