help 300ex wont start

Default help 300ex wont start

i just rebuilt my whole motor put it in started perfect and ran awsome tried to put it in gear wouldnt go i posted on here and you guys help fix the problem so yesterday fixed it and it started and shifted perfect unttill i put the plastics on went to start it and my flywheel fell off so i took off the cover put it on TIGHT closed it all up and now it wont start at all it backfires every few turns could it be somthing with timing or? im getting spark and fuel what could it be? im ready to throw it off a cliff

My guess. Key in flywheel is sheared.

its turning like its supposed to i just took the top off and the timing marks are way off im about to put it together to see if it did the trick, if the key was sheared whouldnt the flywheel just spin free whithout moving the crank?

yea doc you were right thanks for the tip it would of taking me forever to figure that out it seemed like the flywheel was on right thanks again

its still not working i replaced the key did the timing again put it together and it still wont start its not back fireing anymore could i have screwed up the coil in there? everything looked fine, could i screwed up something in the case? merry christmas to you too ill have to go at it again tomorrow

Well that sucks, but I'm glad you got the timing fixed. Check and see if you have spark.
I want to get you out riding tomorrow.

I should be hanging out on the net tomorrow so if you need a guess let me know.

i have spark it doesnt sound right when i try and start it at least i dont think so it just keeps turning im going out now to see if i sheard the key again but i dont think the flywheel came off again it doesnt sound like it has good compresion anymore

when i push start the carb sucks in and out i put my hand on the intake side and it sucks in but some gas sprays out i dont know if thats good or bad i really dont know what to do from here i checked im getting good spark the gas is going thru the carb good if there was something wrong with the flywheel or magneto would i still be getting spark or what about the coil in the left side cove im not really sure how that works is that where the spark comes from could that have gotten messed up when my flywheel came off i dont know what to try now im stuck

That kind of sounds like cam timing isn't right?
