I was wondering how a stock-tired 400EX does in the sand? I am heading to Little Saraha dunes in OK. I have heard they are good in the sand with the MR501 Radials. I have a pipe and a K&N only. I am going to the dunes during Spring Break. I was wondering if it is very busy then? All I want to know is if the 400EX is a good duner? Thanks alot. The 400 rocks in the sand. We went to Little Sahara last year and 400's could fly. You really need rear paddle tires. Some of the big dunes might give you trouble. Dont forget the flag.

 

Depending on the sand conditions, your stockers will either work well, or just work OK. If the sand is a bit damp, you'll love them.

Yes, the EX is an excellent duner. Check out my pics from my first trip to the sand dunes at Little Sahara. My EX was bone stock at the time & running 6 ply Holeshots.

I currently run a set of Dune Sliders for the sand, they work great unless you're just drag racing. They don't get much of a holeshot compared to some of the other more aggressive paddles, but they get just the right mix of traction for any other type of sand riding. They turn and powerslide very well.

 

i ride in a large sand quarry. my friend has a 400EX that i have rode there more times than my quadracer. it works very well and yes his tires are stock.

 

I run dunes all the time on my stock tires. The key is air pressure. At 4psi they suck all spin. In dry fluffy sand I run 2-2.5psi. I weigh 160lbs and and have no problem at this pressure. If you are heavier or carry passengers you may need more. They are like mini paddles. Try 2.5psi first. I can pull wheelies in the sand on mine and win some dragsd too start in second rev it up drop the clutch and run. Don't worry about popping a bead you have to run them over with a truck to get them off the stock rims. HAve fun!
