Default 84 Honda ATC 200s Motor ticking while running

My 84 does tick while running after I did a valve clearance check adjustment. I had it at TDC when I did the adjustment; piston was at the compression stroke. I don't know if I should just keep riding it and forget it or what. I had a problem keeping the piston at TDC when doing the adjustment. Is there a way I can keep the flywheel from moving when I am tweaking the valves. Because of that I think the valves could be adjusted much more accurate and this may fix the problem. If the clearance is off a little will this make it tick like that? I also rebuilt the carb and she starts and idles nicely. But she seems to lack a little power now and I sense that something is wrong. BTW it does speed up with rpm.

anyone have any input? I'm looking to get some pointers before I go and look at it. If anything how can I keep the motor at TDC without it moving while doing the valve adjustment. Its an 84 ATC 200s.

It's an 84' 200s it's gonna tick, I would rather them a little loose than too tight.

well I managed to get the job done on the two that I have. What I did was unbolted the pull starter off the side of the engine according to the manual than I was able to turn the flywheel by hand. When I did the valve check the first time the motor was not at the correct stroke. IMO this is the only way to to do it. Both valves that I thought were adjusted the first time were very loose now. I adjusted them according to spec and had it done in no time plus did some other stuff. After the first one was done I did the second one. This one didn't need to be adjusted but I tweaked the intake valve just a hair. Both machines run like new now. Starts in one or two pulls.

got that fixed but after riding the one this weekend, it seems some stuff got back into the carb I just rebuilt. I dumped out the gas into a bucket and looked like there was a little bit of sediment in there, so that was the problem. Now I need to take apart the carb, clean it and reinstall it again. I must have taken that thing off at least a dozen times now just this week. DAMN IT I get a lot of looks when riding those things. A guy wanted to buy one off me last night for 500. No way.
