All I know is that I watch my buddy in the snow and his wheel with no traction spins uselessly. I on the other hand, go anywhere in the snow that my friends with lockers do!!!

Thats funny, but possible I suppose

To bump my own thread...
I have not had a chance to mess with it and I thank HondaMechanic for the visuals, I'm going to get after it in a few days. Not sure what to do once i find where it isnt turning though.
ss97, Im sure it is not a stupid question to those who have fallen for that dirty little trick, but I have not, there are 4x4 stickers but the first thing you notice on this machine are all the front end compenents, i wouldnt have bought it if it wasnt.

Forgive me and those who arent as familiar with these terms and parts but what exactly is a "spline"?

Ive done a quick search and all i get is a "spline drive" which looks like this:

So i assume this spline's teeth are the things that get wore out and stripped. So, I have to figure out if this is the problem, locate it and figure how to disassemble this thing so that I can replace and reassemble.

The Pictures are great the pictures are correct you are correct.
The forward shaft has a circlip that holds it in place.
Ive got an 87 trx 4x4 that sat for a couple years it was on my farm when i got here. I drug it out of the field cleaned The gas tank cleaned out the carb.
but no 4 wh drive. I took the cover off the front left of the front drive the circlip had came out of its grove and slid forward. (this shaft can slide forward about 2 inches or more.) I slid it back rearward splined it back up put the circlip back instant four wheel drive been working ever since.
Does anyone have a wiring diagram for the ingintion switch I have wires off.
thanks
Momule1

Follow The shaft Back to the rear From where you had the screw driver poking at the boot to where it goes in the engine or transmission. Take that cover off.
You will find your problem right there un less you have tranny gear damage.
The differentul looked ok as when you turned the wheel one wheel spun one direction one spun the oppisite direction.
