Default battery isolator

I have a 2003 Honda Rubicon. I have mounted a second battery to run my winch. I want to add a battery isolator so that both batteries can be charged. I think I have to cut the red wire coming out of the charging regulator (under the right hand read fender) and connect the regulator end to the centre pole on the battery isolator and the other end of the red wire I cut will be terminated and taped off.
Has anyone ever done this? Is this correct?

Have you "Googled" battery isolator? Seems there are a couple ways to do this.

Not sure about the charging system on the Rubicon whether or not it would keep both batteries charged if you were to wire them in parallel. If it will, you have the added advantage of the extra current capacity that two 12 volt batteries in parallel would offer.

I doubt it will though being Honda never planned on installing dual batteries on their atvs.

Yuasa are also doing a high output battery now - so a YTX 20 H should run nearly anything.

Thanks - ya I have done a bit of research - just at the point now of cutting into the wiring harness from the requlator and didn't want to screw it up if it wasn't going to work.

I will check into this - you are suggesting replacing the 14 with a 20 - I wonder if it will fit in the same battery box - there is No extra room in the battery area
