Default 2007 trx250ex Stuck in gear

Thanks guys, In advance, for any advice that may lead to the repair of my wifes quad.

Basically, the quads new... it's a 07' leftover I bought about 7-8 months ago and its has less than 10 hours on it, probally closer to 5.

My buddy took it for a quick ride to the bathroom in the campgrounds we where at and when he got back it he couldnt get it into neutral.

The clutch operates perfect but the shifter will only click down once and up once and seem to hit top and bottom both ways. Wont find neutral so I cant start it... I've tried rolling it while shifting, nothing.

My best guess now is that theres something wrong with the gear shift linkage? but thats just a guess. I have the service manual but its not the most helpful thing in the world.

I want to know what to take apart and what to look for. I think the problem must be behind the rear case cover right?? Anything behind the front case cover I should look for?

Again, thanks

-Rick

I'm guessing it is no longer in warranty?

could the shift shaft be broken?

Warranty expired a couple months ago...

When I move the shifter with my hand everything feels normal. It will click up and hit top (Like you where in 5th) and click down and hit bottom( like you where in neutral, but really your still in first.) so it just not "clicking" and moving to the next gear.

I wish I understood what was supposed to happen when the foot shifter is moved to better guess and trouble shoot this problem.

Thanks for the heads up on the locating pin HondaMechanic...

What if any special tools are required to get to that part? And what will have to be removed to locate it?

Thanks again,

Rick

It's easy to check , you just have to remove the clutch cover .. If that is the problem then the centrifugal clutch will probably have to be removed to replace parts ..

Thats for pointing me in the right direction Honda Mechanic...

Once I got the front engine cover off and moved the foot shifter with my hand and noticed the 10mm bolt in front of the pin you mentioned was loose! so I torqued it up and bam!!!

Now she shifts fine.

I'm going to remove the bolt, clean the area, and re-install it with blue lock tite so that it doesnt back out again.
