Question 98 trx 250r shift problem

thank you in advance for any help anyone can give me

ok here is one for all of you.this is my very first quad, bought it from a guy and drove two hours to get it,loaded it without running it,got it home and went to ride it and wouldnt start.im a mechanic so i went to work,no spark while kicking it over.called the guy he said it would run if i pull started it sooo i pull started it and it did run briefly(needs a stator) all of a sudden there were no gears when we tried popping the clutch.now the clutch hanldle feels like there is no tension on it.if you shift into a gear it still rolls like its in nuetral but you can feel it try to engage the gear.anyone have any thoughts on this one?its a 89 not a 98.sorry.

First check the year of the bike , are you sure it isn't 1989 .. I would check the clutch lever arm (beside the sprocket) to make sure the clutch cable and clutch lever arm are moving.. If they are good you will have to remove the clutch cover and check the clutch .. The clutch friction disks will wear into the aluminum clutch basket and it's possible that is the problem ..
