Default Need Help

Fuse keeps blowing in my 2004 400ex. It works fine untill i turn my lights on then everything goes dim. Dim lights work but brights dont turn on. As soon as i shut my ride off after turning on the lights it blows the 15A fuse everytime. Shortage in the wirings? Where?

What kind of voltage are you getting out of the battery before you turn on the lights, then after? Does it start up fine afterwards?

It does sound like you may have a short, but also like you're not enough juice too.

Don't have your model, but I'd start checking wires under the hood by the headlight to see if maybe one has rubbed of the insulation.

Hopefully you'll get someone who's had a little more experience to reply with a more accurate diagnosis.

Almost sounds like a bad stator if it's dimming the lights like that. But the blowing the fuse part has me scratching my head.

Sounds like a short up near the steering head. It's a pain in the a** but undo your wire loom and start looking at wires. You didn't say if the fuse blew if you left your lights on as you shut off your machine. And are you shutting it off at the thumb switch or the key?
