Default 89 Foreman TRX350d

I just got one of these machines, which has a no start issue, which I have found to be a Timing issue, but my question is this. I removed the right side cover, which houses the alternator and pulse generator, and there was oil in there. Is that normal? I am not use to seeing oil in other ATV's where the alternator is.. Nothing mentioned in the manual? Is there a seal that may be bad? Any suggestions?

Yes, I meant the left engine cover.. Thanks for the reply.. I was worried I would have to replace a seal or something.. What should I look for with regards to the timing slipping? I was told that they were running it at extremely high rpms trying to pull another atv out of mud when it shut down. Can timing just slip. or should I be looking for something?
