Default TRX 300 Rear Shock

Yesterday, I unscrewed the bottom bolt on the rear shock so that I could do some work on the swingarm.

To my surprise, the shock and spring separated from the top of the shock. Basically, somehow, or over time the inner metal rod became unscrewed from the fitting inside the shock.

I set the bottom half on the round and a good bit of he shock fluid spilled out. The metal rod is threaded at the end. Looking inside the the shock, you can see a free floating disc piece which I'm sure is what the rod should be screwed into.

My question is, is it possible to reassemble the shock? I tried for a few minutes to screw the shock back on with rod still attached. But I'm guess it would be pretty difficult if the female portion of the thread is free floating.

Just go buy a new shock,(yours is shot). they aren't that expensive. If however you want to upgrade, check out Elka or Fox. They make great aftermarket shocks. A little spendy but worth the money.

Get on ebay and buy a rear shock for a raptor 660. The only year that will work is 01 because they have the remote rez. The one thing that will have to be done is the hose to the rez should be lengthened to 14-16 inches. With the longer hose you can mount the rez to a safe place on the frame. Its a super cheap upgade and it makes a huge difference.
