if i do need to rebuild the top end what all would i need? what do i use to measure the cylinder to see what size to get? what gaskets do i need? should i just replace the rings or go with the kit and rebuild the whole top end?

 

The service manual will tell you what gaskets you will need and Rocky Mtn. ATV probably sells a gasket kit for a top end rebuild. A good set of calipers will measure it but a set of ID micrometers is better. But don't go buy a set just for this. As far as replacing just the rings or doing a piston too, like I said you'll determine that with a bore measurement. But when you get the valve cover off, you should check the rocker arms and cam for wear. Incidentally, I have a cam for that motor you can have but it's a high performance cam.
