Default 2005 foreman 500 2wd shift problem

I just bought a used '05 foreman 500 2wd. It runs great but the foot shifter sticks once in a while. It moves up and down freely, but doesn't seem to want to click into the next gear. It hasn't happened to me while driving, only when stopped. I fight with it and sometimes it takes a really hard yank with my hand to make it finally shift. Other times after battling it just decides to click right in. I have scanned the forum but only seem to come up with people who have had electronic shift problems. Any ideas on the cause and a way to fix it?

My 05 4x4 foreman is also hard to shift sometimes and has been that way since new. Several other owners have told me theres is a little hard to shift at times also.

On my Yamaha s both where hard to shift, I found the shifted much smoother when I switched to full synthetic oil, make sure you use motorcycle grade for wet clutches such as Amsoil.

They break in with a few miles.

Also, be sure the clutch is adjusted properly.

I hope the royal purple solves the problem. I have been told by several people that fully synthetic may solve the problem. Someone also suggested that the idle may be a little too high, I am going to adjust that and hope it helps until I get the oil changed......just gotta find a filter.

Just make sure it is rated JASO MA, or it may ruin clutches.

BTW, Did you check the clutch adjustment?

If not, that should be the very first thing you look at.
