Default Honda 250EX range---how far?

What kind of range should I get with our Honda 250EX's? Should we get 30-40 miles on a full tank of gas? I know it's a 2.7 gallon tank. We haven't really pushed them that far, but according to our trail map, there's one run that my wife and I would like to do and it's 20-25 miles between gas stations. We could be looking at a 30 mile run from our house before we can gas up again.

We don't ride that fast and we were told that the little 250's are good on gas. What do you think? Could we make it?

If your range is in question, carrying along extra fuel is the smart thing to do, expecially if you don't ride fast.

There are racks available for your 250ex that will work quite well, and gas cans as small as 1 gallon are available at Walmart.

Are you kidding? I have a Recon 250 (same motor as yours) and I can ride for tons more than 30 miles. I filled it to the brim a few weeks back and went riding. I rode hard for 25 miles and then filled it up to the brim again. It took a little over 1/2 gallon. Then a week ago I filled it to the brim and went to West Virginia on Hatfield McCoy. Again, I rode fairly hard for 4 hours. Filled up and it took a 1.4 gallons.

We rode 107 miles total at HM and I used a little over 2 gallons. My recommendation is do not carry extra gas. Carry tools, water, clothes, but not gas. Not for anything under 80 miles.

Ok. thanks for the info. Sounds like those little 250s should get us at least 70-80 miles before a fillup. And we don't ride that fast, either, so we should be good. Thanks...

Yes, at LEAST 70-80 miles. You will be surprised at how far you can go. When you get finished, fill up and see what it takes. Then you'll wonder why you even were concerned.

The 250's are very frugal on fuel compared to the big bore 700+cc quads on the market now.

I suppose there's a few ways to think about it but by your logic, you should also carry extra gas around in your car. Gas is heavy, even a gallon of it. And on an ATV, it makes a big difference in handling and safety. I choose to not carry it unless I am uncertain of where I'm riding and how far. And then I will carry it in one of these ATV Fuel Pack | Fuel Packs | ATV Fuel | Gas Container | Gas Can | Fuel Storage | Kolpin | Gas Cans | Jerry Cans

But if I'm riding a 250 for a distance of 30-40 miles, there's no way I'm gonna carry gas.

well, bud, my 250 doesn't have a fuel gauge where as my truck and cars do. i reckon it's a matter of convenience either way you look at it. but i will tell you that carrying one gallon of gas doesn't affect my grizzly 450's handling ability or either of my 250s. but, because i don't have gauges on the 250s, but the 450 does, i still pop the top and manually gauge them myself so as to not get in a bind. have a great day my friend!!!!
