Default 420 ES Automatic Shift

Ok guys, my issue is driving me nuts. It seems if my 420 "over-revs" (the best way I can describe it) the digital display where the selected gear shows a blank line and it will not shift up or down. I have to stop and shut the bike off, then start, in gear of course, then down shift to nuetral and give it a little gas. Sometimes I have to rock it back and forth to get it to shift after I have restarted. This happens in all gears and has even happened in nuetral once. I was told there was an adjustment I could make to resolve this. Any ideas?

not sure about the 420 but on my 400 at rancher, it has a fwd/rev. lever on the left side of the gas tank. My bike would give me the --- on the shift display and would not shift.
All I had to do was adj. the shifter linkage SLIGHTLY and it all went back to working properly.. I had just had the plastic off for cleaning and didnt get the shifter back in the correct position. Hope this helps.
