Rubicon owners, please try this
#1
Come to a stop in D1 normal range "D" and kill the engine with the red slider switch but leave the key on. Then restart with the quad still in "D" and try to go, Mine did the now famous misfire and .5MPH thing again. I had to turn the key off and restart in neutral to get it back to normal. Also, my quad will start in any gear or range without useing the right hand brake, If i press the start button it will also spin the starter while driveing. is this normal?

ok, just did more playing. It seems my Rubicon will not move if I shut it off and restart it in anything but "N" with either the key or the red switch. IF I shut it off and restart in "N" everytings fine but in "D" or reverse all I get is the misfire until I put it in "N" and shut it down and restart it. Hope its just mine,

JRM, I have never hit that kill switch on the Rubicon so I am not sure how mine acts. Now you should only be able to start it in gear in D or L with the right brake lever depressed. If yours starts anyother way I dont think it is normal.

Whew, Found the starting in gear problem, Another simple one too. Honda didn't tighten (well, they did but it was cross threaded) the screw holding the start in gear override switch under the boot on the right hand brake lever. So my Rubicon thought my brake was always on. Upon tightening the switch it now will not start in gear unless the brake is on, and it also runs and drives fine after I start it in gear. To other Rubicon riders: you can simulate what my problem was if you do exactly as my first post says to and hold the front brake on threw the entire process from shutdown to startup and try to drive (always keep the right hand brake pulled a tad). It will misfire thinking the brake is on. Does anybodys rubicon have yellow paint on various bolts? Mine seems to have the paint on every bolt near where I find a error, all the loose lug nuts are painted, the master cylinder hose bolt near the Override switch that I just found was loose ect.?

I have the yellow paint on every bolt, I assumed that each bolt was marked after it had been tighted on final inspection from the factory. I haven't had any loose bolts yet.

All the honda's i have owned has had yellow paint on bolts, sounds like your dealer does not properly inspect there bikes before delivery. It is normal to misfire when you use the brake and start in gear untill you let go of the front brake.

I will bring in my front wheel tommarow ( 100 miles round trip ) to show them the now oval lug nut holes and I will bring up all my other problems. Also, My gas tank shroud is not perfectly centerd around my fuel guage and tank cap. Is it just another problem on my quad or are all of them slightly lop sided with more of a gap on the front side?
