Power Steering or Not
#1
Going to be ordering up a 2011 Honda Rubicon. Was wondering if i should get the powersteernig package or not. I am typically using it for hunting and milling around my property. I won't be doing a lot of trial riding but maybe some here and there. I don't want to pay for it if the difference in steering isn't that much. Plus i was wondering if anyone has had problems with their power steering at all. I am looking at the least maintenance as possible. Any help would be great. Thanks

I guess to answer the questions you asked and the way you will be using the atv, if it was me......no I would save the extra bucks it cost.
However, if you where to be doing alot of rocky trial riding, then yes.
Power steering does not lessen the effort of steering so-much as it takes away the handle bar jaring on rough and rocky trails.
As far as problems?????, haven't really heard of much, but I am sure, like anything it isn't fool proof and over time we may start to hear of more problems. No different than problems with PS on a car of truck, sometimes you have to replace a PS pump. Maintance will be the key.

There really is nothing to a PS unit on atv. There is basically a electric motor a gear and a ECU unit. The Only issue I have heard of was water getting into the gear system seizing the unit! Pretty much a bullet proof system with a simple electric operating system.

I guess I kinda look at things alittle different than some people.
PS, to me is a luxury item that cost additional 600 bucks Honda or 700 Yamaha.
If all I am doing is going hunting for a couple weeks and then spending the remainder of my time just putten around the farm, I personally would rather spend that money on a good winch, a nice rifle boot and hunting accessories for the the atv or a snow plow that would help save me some time.......time = money.
I have ridden my '07 rancher for the past 3 years, trail riding in the rockies, hunting, and using it for work around our mountain cabin,(and I am 61 years old) at not once have I wished for PS.
Yes I have ridden PS models and they are nice, real nice, but like I said, how much do you want to spend for luxury..........geezzzs, this country is getting to soft as it is.

I would hate to not get it and then later wish that I had.
I think the anti-kickback when you hit a rock along the side of the trail makes it worth every penny.
I think Honda and Polaris make their PS too soft and take the road feel out of the handlebars.
