recon rear end

hey all i am going to look at a recon to buy. owner says there is something wrong with rear end. is there anything i can do to check rear end out when i am there to look at it to give me an idea what is wrong with it? if its just a bearing or ring gear? not really sure what i am looking for maybe some tricks or tips to help narrow down the problem. thanks

Sounds like you have an honest seller, if he has already told you there is something wrong with the rear end.
I think I'd start by asking the seller what made him think there is a problem, and what the problem is.
He might say it rides fine, but that the oil gets milky when he does water crossings, or maybe he'll say it makes a grinding noise...
