Keep the plug in. If the seals are OK water shouldn't get in.
Disk brake conversion kits are popular for the earlier Rincons.
As far as power goes, it is a 650 single and won't ever have the power of one of the big twins.
Mess with it too much and you loose the reliability the models are known for.
