ok so let me get this straight...

straighten handlebars and tie them down

loosen nuts on each end of tie rod

twist tie rods to achieve alignment

tighten nuts

done


almost seems to easy lol

 

Sounds good except for the tieing of the handlebars. What's that all about?

 

You can do it either way if you want (get the toe right, then adjust to get the bars straight). Not rocket science.

 

Like Jeffin said...it's not rocket science.

When I did my Rubicon, I measured the distance from the tips of each grip back to a reference point on the back rack, as well as the front, to get them pointing approx straight ahead.
Then I looked from the front and was satisfied with the way the left wheel looked and it was obvious the right one was pointed way out.( R and L from sitting position)

So I measured the length of the left tie rod and then the right one, which was longer by quite a bit. I removed it, adjusted it and reinstalled it.

I caught myself checking the toe-in and was satisfied with it and realized that I'm not running up and down the road at speeds and even if the toe-in was not exact to factory specs, I would never see a problem that it would cause.....tire wear.

 

They do give quite a range of error in the toe specs.

Also, you may find yourself making one adjustment to change both the toe and the position of the bar: IE toe is a bit too wide, bar is just a bit this way, look at it for a minute and adjust one tire in that will fix both problems...
