Unhappy honda doesn't like thw cold

I have a 2003 trx350 honda fourtrax and everytime it gets cold she wont start or I almost got to kill the battery to get her going.I can put her in the shed and light a fire and within 20 mins she'll start no problem. In the summer time she'll almost start without the choke!!I put a hotter plug in her at the advice of a friend but still no go.Has anyone had this problem or can help me with this?

I may be wrong but I believe the 350 has a primer on the carb. Give that a few pumps and it will help alot. On my Rubicon, it is located on the right side, you have to remove a cover to get to it.

Mine is the same way. I never have run the battery down but still have to crank it several times.

Default Hard start

If your carborater is fine, you might try Lucas Fuel Treatment.I noticed when they started putting ethanol in gase my 2000 400 Foreman need choke to start. So i tried Lucas fuel treatment(Walmart,AutoZone carry it)It starts much better ,runs great. Also every now and then i"ll run Seafoam in it.It wont hurt to try these pruducts.I've had this Foreman 11 years with no carb. problems.Hope this will help .

Is the rpm at idle to high? if idle to high it will bypass choke system, The starting curcuit is set up on an closed throttle... also the idle curcuit could be clogged up or an tight intake value....IMO.

I know this is not exactly what you are looking for, but my buddy uses starting fluid religously during the winter on his carbed quad. In fact, it was the primary reason I bought a quad with fuel injection. He doesn't use it that much (only to plow with) and he didn't feel like trying to troubleshoot it...so he just uses starting fluid. Starts right up every time!

Honda states to change the oil for winter riding in my 450 Foreman manual. A ATV with 0w or 5w will turn over and start much easier than one with thick 10w or 20w oil in it.

yep- proper oil will make a big difference on how she starts in the cold, especially when it's below 30* - and also maybe a weak spark / coil pack?

Slightly stale fuel that wouldn't be noticeable in the summer can make a no-start in winter. Ethanol gas goes stale much quicker. Gas also goes stale faster in small quantities when exposed to air (like in the float bowl).

If you aren't running this ATV daily, try shutting the gas off and running the carb dry before you park it, or if you forget to do so, open the carb drain. Do this before attempting to start it, so as not to soak the spark plug in stale gas.

In Oregon Super can still be sold without ethanol.
