Default Honda Recon Starter Issues

I have a 2005 Honda Recon Es and am having starter problems. When you hit the stater button all you hear is clicks. Oftentimes you can tap on the starter to get it to turnover.

If tapping on the starter motor itself gets it started, it's time for a new or refurbished starter motor.

If you can lightly tapp starter IMO an starter brush is sticking or wore down and the viberation of the tap relocate brush in holder to help make contact to armature. So you may try to re brush starter with brush plate[BRUSH KIT] will have them in it.

A buzzing solenoid is usually a flat battery. It can also be a seized engine or starter motor, or the thick wires not being tight enough (including earths). So, check the connections for corrosion and looseness, charge the battery and, if possible, check it is good. Check you can turn the engine over via the pull start. If all else is OK, remove the new starter and check it for being OK, shorting the live side to earth can also make the solenoid buzz. Please, all of you, ignore the "tap the starter if it doesn't work" advice. On many Recon, and all 420s the magnets are inclined to drop off the case, hitting the case encourages this no end. I have a box of about six 420 motors, all with loose magnets.
