battery failed to start during use. will kick start easily but not hold charge.
tried charging several hours with no results.

IMO i would check charging system, the most common problem on this atv when its doesnt charge is the battery cover has been off for awhile an dirt and moisture get in batt box and cause the green wire or red wire in the connection in front of batt. to rott or break causing the regalated wire to get to batt to charge[ i think wire is in the red connector in front of batt]. if they look good then i guess i would trace down wiring if the meter shows no charge.
