Reviving a 1986 TRX250

First,to answer the last post you made about gear oil and engine oil, make sure for engine oil that it is a ATV/motorcycle wet clutch rated oil. Car oil has addatives in it that will make the clutch slip. For the rear end, a good hypoid gear lube, in a 75-85 or 90 ranged will work fine. Now, for your spark problem, one thing to make sure of is the kill switch is not broken, or the wires to it broken or shorted, that will kill your spark, regardless of the condition of the coil. I've lost track how many times I've tried to start an ATV or snowmobile only to find the kill switch on........derrrr. Places to check when spark is lost, is the ignition key switch, kill switch, coil, and hopefully not in your case, the stator on the motor, where all the electricity is generated.

Well, I got the coil in today. It has very weak spark. I even put the old one back on and sure enough it also has weak spark. That was 30 bucks wasted, but any who. What would cause weak spark? Would the kill switch cause weak spark? CDI maybe? Im at a stand still in need of some help. Thanks

Cdi, Stator, bad ground. Electronics are kind of a shot in the dark cause any little thing can throw it off. Try tapping the cdi with a screwdriver handle or something and see how the spark looks. I haven't read through your whole post so, do you have a new spark plug in it? To check the kill switch, find where it plugs into the wire harness and unplug it, if it's anything in the switch it will start. Honda's on off switch is actually a not grounded, grounded switch. If you're getting anykind of spark I would rule out the switch.
