Hello all I just picked up a 400ex with a bad starter clutch. Got a real good deal on the quad it needs a few odds and ends but nothing big. the biggest thing is it needs a new starter clutch. When i hit the starter button the starter spins and all the gears spin including the big gear on the flywheel but the flywheel does not. My question is how does the flywheel clutch acually work? I just pulled the flywheel today and could not see any obvious signs of anything being broken. And also how hard should it be to spin the flywheel in reverse by hand. I always thought that it should be just as hard to spin it backwards as it is forward because either way your still spinning the motor, however a buddy of mine told me thats not true. When i spin mine i feel the same amount of resistence and it has me wondering if there might be something else wrong? The motor was just rebuilt prior to be aquiring it and a 440 kit was installed.
