Rancher 420 and others/ Dif frnt & rear tire sizes
im new to ATV's can ya'll help the illeterate?
i have a new 420 rancher, they come with different size front and rear tires.
Mechanically, does that mean the gears are different from the front and from rear diffs? or maybe the center has a one way bearing, so one can rotate fast than the other?
i want to put after market wheels and tires, am i limited? can someone explain the mechanics? mine has independent rear. I see these itp wheels but says not for IRS, why?
thanks much

The rim size is different, stock, but the size of the tire is the same (24").
Getting 12" rims all the way around would open up more possibilities for tire selection.
Since excellent handling is the Rancher's strong point, I wouldn't kill that by going with huge tires. 25" Terra Cross radials, Mudlite Radials, or Bighorn radials would be good choices for general purpose, IMHO.

According to this link the 420's have 24" tires front and back. http://www.atvreviewnetwork.com/enth...cleCode=142186
Front: 24 x 8-12
Rear: 24 x 10-11
Only the rims are are a different diameter.

Thanks guys, this is embarassing! I didnt pay attention to the size, i just looked at it and thought the front was smaller, but obviously its same height/ diameter, rear is just wider!
Can you explain about width then?
I do want to go to a 25". if i do aftermarket wheels, they are usualy same front and rears right?
Why are these ITp wheels advertised not for IRS on the rancher?
also, id have to use wheel spacers to space the rear ?
thanks much

Offset is usually way different between wheels for independent rear suspension and rear suspension machines. Solid axle machines usually use wheels deeply dished in, where the width of the rear axle on IRS is usually wider and the wheels are dished the other way.
If yours is IRS and you don't want to spend $$$ on aftermarket wheels, I'm not sure if a set of Rincon rears would fit.
