i micd the jug at home then took it to a machine shop and have it re checked measured out to 86 on the nose, then i went to the honda dealer here in town and had them match me a piston and a set of rings online from their carrier then they ordered them for me.

Make sure you put the gaps in the oil rings (not compression rings) 180º apart, best to line up the gaps over either end of the wrist pin.

One other thing to check is the ring gap, I had a new push mower ( I know, not an atv) and it smoked and used oil like crazy, but i kept using it all summer. after putting it away for the fall, I decided to pull it apart and see what was going on. I was supposed to have something like .008 ring gap with the ring in the bore, turned out I had over .060, so the oil was shooting up into the combustion chamber and out the pipe. Ran good, but smoked like a rich 2 stroke, and had to add oil almost every other time I mowed. It was a cheap Walmart mower, so I never took it back, in case you wondered !!
