400ex need help

Default 400ex need help

ok so i am brand new to quads, i litterly just bought a 2001 400ex about 3 houres ago. any way i just got home rolled it off the trailer and it wont start -.-
it turns over but it dosent run also my gas switch says

off-left
reserve-up
fuel-right

i had it on up becaues i couldent put it to the right or is up just the main thing?

A couple things you can check is the spark but more the likely the needle jets are pluged in the carb take them out and try to look through them if you cant see light then there pluged you can soke them in carb cleaner for a bit the use a air compresser to blow them out but you have to make sure you get it all cleaned out and there spotless or it wont run right or you can pick up a carb rebuild kit for 12 dollors it could also be the fuel pump went to **** you can get rebuild kits for those to but start with the carn

well i rode it just be 4 i bought it the gas switch the guy said was left on allnight so when i got there it was flooded he took the plug out and air filter off and copple mins it started im sure nothing could of went wrong in-between that time

It sounds like it flooded again take the plug out and see it its wet and check the gapping it its wet take a lighter and heat it up to dry it out or if you have acise to a blast chamber you can clean it up the it should fire but if you road it then nothing can possibly go wrong besides then it being flooded again

allright kinda disappointing that i dident get to ride it but tomorrow ill go see if it can fire up.

ya just make sure the feul is turned off tonight then when you go to fire it up turn it back on and try to start it it just sounds like its flooding the needle float valve might be sticking to you might want to check that if you keep having problem with it flood

ok but about when you turn the fuel on it says

off-left
resever-up
and fuel-right
but i cant turn it to the right and i no for a fact the left is off

mines the same way you can run it on researve and it will cause no issues but when your out of gas your out every four wheeler ive worked on those switches will wear out and and just work on off or res

yup thats what i found on all used atvs i work at a atv salvage yard and they all have the same issues those switches usually do that after a year or 2 so its no big deal
