Default needle settings

What do the different clips on the main needle do? What is the difference between the top and bottom settings? What does the needle do? I'm trying to learn as much as I can about atv carbs so I can make my own adjustments and help out my buddies, so any info would be greatly appreciated amongst all of us!

the lower you move the clip, the higher the needle sits in the jet so it makes it richer, is that clear?

got it... I posted this in the polaris side too just so I could make sure I got a straight answer from one or the other but yeah I got it between what ya'll have told me and from HOURS of binging and googling I think I have a pretty good grasp of how most of the parts of an atv carb work now. Thanks though!!
