Default Thinking of buying a 2010 Rancher

My wife and I are thinking of buying a 2010 4x4 Rancher and trading in our '02 250EX. It only has 500 miles on---the guy bought it new from the same dealer last year and ended up trading it back in for a Big Red. It has the electronic shift and it comes with a winch already on it (the guy had it installed when he bought it new). He said they'd install a new 60' plow and a rear seat, and give us $900 for our 250ex. With the trade, tax and all, we'd be looking at $6200. Is it a good deal? I put $50 down on it today to hold it---pending on financing and what we decide to do. And what about the electronic shift? Is it trouble-prone?

We looked at it this morning. I'd post a pic of it but don't know how. I'm pretty excited but don't want to get screwed. I forgot to mention---he said that it has the independent suspension, too (in the rear?).

I had a manual 2007 Rancher, and it was a great little quad. I am not sure I like that price though. Seems a bit high, but that's just me.

What brand of winch is on it?

900 for your 02 250 ??? unless it is a beat up pile, that dealer is bending you over without any lube...in my opinion. If he wont give you at least 1500 for that, or come down on the price of the Rancher, I would just sell the 250 yourself and make some money. Getting the plow and rear seat is nice, but I would still work on him for trade in, chances are you would see your old 250 set up in his shop for about 1800-2000 retail, a nice profit for him.

He gave me a bit above NADA book value on the 250ex. It books for $730 but he said that he'd give me $900 depending on condition. It runs good, shifts good, but the front fender is cracked and it's scuffed up pretty good. I put a new seat on it and replaced the decals on the tank last year. How do you post pics on here? I'll post one and let you guys see it.

Thats not a deal really.. pretty much standard pricing for that unit with a winch and low miles in almost new condition.. as for 900 for that 250 you could prolly get 1200 for in on your lawn if it was in fantastic condition.. I dunno i would try to beat him down to at least 6k out the door done.

Ditto what those guys said. I don't think you are getting that great of a deal.

The dealership has to take used stuff in cheap, though, so you might be better off selling that thing on your own.

The flip side is you would have to mess with advertising, looky lou's, Nigerian scammers and the like.

I,m sure the ES on a 2010 must have the bugs out of them, I had a 2001 450 Foreman ES and never had the shifting problems, I sold it to a friend who still uses it to this day and he also had no troubles with the ES.

At most I has to shake the ATV to get it into neutral sometimes.

We did end up getting the Rancher. I know I probably could have gotten a bit more for the '02 if I would have sold it myself, but this way, I don't have to worry about trying to sell the thing---much less make room in the garage for it. That's already too full of wheelers and snowmobiles. It did already have a lot of add-ons though: front brush guard, rear bumper, winch. We added a rear seat. We're happy with it and I love the electronic shift and my wife likes the automatic part of it. The IRS is awesome too.
