Default 1999 Honda TRX300 problems

Alright guys just joined because I need help bad for this thing. My buddy, who is an idiot, decided to turn the atv off while it was still in gear and must have done something to it I don't know. The problem is one the thing won't start, it might turn over I'll have to check in the morning but the clutch is really loose and I can't even put it into neutral. I realize this is in the honda section but I also have a 2004 suzuki ozark that won't start. I was maybe doing some donuts and rolled it on it's side and it was still running the exhaust just smelled funny so I shut it off and brought it back into the barn. Well now it won't start. I pulled the spark plug, oil on it, pulled the air filter, oil on that as well, loosend the hose from the carb to the air filter, little bit of oil dripping out of it but very little. Bout to get a new filter and spark plug tomorrow to see if I can start it. Keys wont start it in either of the atvs and it won't crank. If I pull start the suzuki it will crank, not sure bout the honda, I'll check in the morning. Need help doing some riding this weekend thanks guys.

Welcome to the forum CleChevy On the Honda you bud must of shut down the engine without down shifting to newtral first ,if this is the case you'll have to rock ATV back an forth while using your hand to down shift it to newtral in order to get it to start ; unless Honda has changed it the only way to start the engine while in newtral !

On the Suzuki Ozark depending on how long it took you to get on all 4 again , when it was on it's side oil got sucked from the crankcase into the air box , after this happened the air filter clogged with oil causing the oil to be sucked into the carburator then the intake ; from there into the combustion chamber fouling the spark plug !

If the Air Filter is a uni filter/foam type you shouldn't have to get a new one unless it's the paper filter , with the foam uni filter you only need to wash it out with dish water soap , squeeze out the oil , then let it air dry and re oil the foam filter install new spark plug ( NGK7EA is the plug you should use ; save the spark plug change last and it would be a good idea to pick up a can Of SeaFoam and a can of Deep Creep wile you're at it .

You Can find the Deep Creep and Sea Foam most all Auto Parts Stores , and at your local Walmart Supercenters , the Sea Foam about $6 the last time i bought some , it might be more now that gas and oil prices have been up ; but it's well worth the money !

Use the SeaFoam to mix with your fuel and the Deep Creep/ spray give it a good shot into the spark plug hole , then turn the engine over a few time's with the spark plug out this will rid the combustion chamber of the oil that got sucked into the cylinder ; after you perform these thing's you should be ready to go !

Oh one other thing to do after this change your oil and oil filter , you will get alot of suggestion's about what type of oil to use , i use Castrol GTX Conventional motor oil 20w50 summer 10w40 winter ; i' use the same oil in all my vehicle's 1988 GMC S15 Jimmy 4.3L EFI MPV 4x4 , 1987 Chevy S10 Tahoe P/U 2.8L EFI , 1980 Chevy Full Size Short Bed 350 Turbo 4 bolt main Edelbrock double pumper , 2006 Arctic Cat 400 FIS Auto 4x4 ; with the Suzuki 376cc Engine and Suzuki's Duramatic belt driven clutch without as much as a hiccup !

well I think I got it into neutral, the actual shifter lever is really loose so i had to push in on the shifter and downshifted into neutral i believe because now it'll roll forwards and back how do I tighten up the lever again?

I’ve had my ‘99 FourTrax for 10 years now and it’s never failed me. This wheeler is the ultimate puller. I’ve actually plowed with it using a 10' wide chisel plow! I’ve been through water around 4.5' deep with it. Mudding is no problem. I’m a proud owner.
