Default New honda

Im picking up my new 2002 honda 300ex today! what should i do to it first, its jetted and has a new exhaust. i ordered some nerf bars. should i change the oil? if so what kinda should i use? gas? what octane, what do you suggest? ultimately what is the first thing to do to it? he has his suspension almost on its last tick so there is little travel should i raise it up as i do weigh more than him im about 220 what click should it be at? any other info would be appreciated.

Congrats on the new ride.

Just me, but I'd change the oil. It may have fresh oil in it, but you'll know for sure it does, and when it was done.

I'd run just regular octane in it, unless he's done some internal motor work to raise the compression.

I think everyone is a little different in how they want the suspension set, so just play with it till you get it where you like it.

You could always spend some time on ebay just looking for stuff you "need".

Have fun with the quad.

Try Motul, Klotz, and Redline or any other kind.

In most of the country, 10W40 is a good summer oil, and 5W30 a winter oil. Maybe 20W50 if you are in the very hot south.

Or just use the Honda GN4 oil. Good stuff. Also, check the chain. Not only for adjustment, but to see if it needs to be replaaced. Check the sprockets too. And brake adjustment and life. Adjust the clutch. Check the air in the tires. Oil or grease all the pivot points. Check the valve clearance. And get a service manual.

Good advice. A service manual is a must have.

i got an original manual from him, i also downloaded a pdf. Just got it back home now. its like a dream come true! I think ill keep with the honda oil. Im replacing the yellow plastic with black. putting a new rear brake on and doing those suggested adjustments. Im going to mess with the suspension to get it a bit more soft. these bikes dont have great turning radiuses do they? i got narrower tires up front not sure the size but is their a way to get it to turn tighter?

Just shift your weight and throttle up to get tighter turning radius.

I welded a plate up under the plastic to the front of my ex and bolted on a winch- I was always getting stuck in the mud.
