Hi All,

I am curious as to the longevity of the Honda Automatic transmissions have been?? Do they whine like the hydrostatics in riding lawn mowers??

Trail riding, road riding, and some work would the the example of uses.

The three speed torque converter type in the Rincon has been known to hit 30k without problems.

You do see some threads on the hydrostatic unit in the Rubicon needing to be replaced, but I think if you service the machine on schedule and don't flood the crankcase with water and grit the transmission is likely to last the life of the machine.

Both transmissions are pretty quiet.

I've got the same question---i just bought a 2010 Rancher with the electronic shift/auto transmission. How long do they last without problems?

If you mean the dual clutch auto, it is really too new to tell, but I suspect it will do fine. If is totally different than anything else ever put on a quad, and offers the efficiency of a geared manual with the ease of operation of an auto.

The push button shift system offered on manual 5 speeds were initially prone to angle sensor problems and other minor problems, but newer ones seem to be much better.

Hitting all the connectors with dielectric grease can be a good preventative.

Just my humble opinions.

I've heard a lot about those angle sensors with the older models. Mine is a 2010, so hopefully, they've fixed the issues. I love it otherwise---especially the independent rear suspension.

If you plan to maintain the machine yourself, I'd highly recommend investing in the factory service manual. If someday you do loose an angle sensor, they are neither expensive nor difficult to change.

Do you have to be able to do an engine rebuild to change the angle sensor? I can do casual maintenance like change a spark plug, change the oil---and I do on my 250ex. Where can I get the factory service manual?
