Default Foreman electric shift problem

I have a 09 honda foreman fpe 4x4. the shift gear display was blinking 8 times which meant an angular sensor was bad. I contracted the honda dealer purchased the sensor and replaced it. I crank it up, electric shifted fine into first gear, so I put it into neutral and turned it off to reattach the plastic. Crank it up again to ride but this time the shift gear was flashing five time. This means the ECU could be bad. Any other suggestions before I replace the ECU. I checked the wiring and connectors for cuts and water but all seem to be fine.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
