Post ATV Oil??????

I have a 2002 Honda Recon ES, I recently used Royal purple atv oil. Now when I go to change it can I use Amsoil 0W-40 instead of the Royal purple? Or does anyone have any other type of oil that they think is better?

Also is it normal for the Honda Air Cooled engines to run hot?

Thanks for the help

Any ATV wet clutch oil is safe to use, just make sure its drained out good, most synthetics are pretty forgiving, but let it drip dry to be sure.Hard to go wrong with Amsoil, great stuff, but about as pricey as Royal Purple.
All air cooled motors get hot, especially if you are doing a slow trail ride on a warm day, they need moving air to help cool, too bad most don't even have an oil cooler, or just have a tiny one, it would really help to have a nice big oil radiator, cooler oil lasts longer and protects the engine better.

Amsoil not only is made for wet clutches it is compatible even with conventional oil if you want to make your own blend, so you can switch at any time with any type of oil.

I would use 10w40 in your air cooled recon, 0w if your ice fishing is ok- amsoil's 10w40 motercycle oil is what I use in my 1986 TRX200SX and it runs like new- never even adjusted the valves
