i ride in northern wi and i own a 400ex its great on the trails i am not so sure about dunes though i have heard of other people using them in the dunes. i know it is great for the trails great on trails goes around 65 mph and i think if you got a air filter, pipe and jetted it, it would do 70mph (on trails) not sure about dunes.

honestly it depends on what dunes you are talking about...Juniper dunes is no problem(100 ft dunes at the most), but go to Winchester Bay(maybe 400 ft dunes?) and you will find yourself wishing for a bit more HP. As for jumping, it will take a hit just fine...but the stock shocks show their weakness on whoops as the rear end tends to want to swap back and forth and if you are trying to stay in third the shocks will pack up as they arent fast enough to keep up.
