'87 Honda Foreman 350 problems
I just bought a '87 Foreman the other week. After a few flawless rides I went out for a ride with my grandsons yesterday. About 1/2 hour into the ride the bike just stopped running. I tried the starter a few times and it started back up. About an hour later it quit again and didn't start up until I switched the fuel valve into the reserve position. It worked for the next hour or so until we got back to their house. I turned the machine off for a few minutes and it didn't want to start back up. It would seem like it was going to start but after taking my finger off the start button it would die out quickly. A couple of times it did start when I held the gas lever part way in but it wouldn't stay running. When I would let up on the starter you could hear a whirring/buzzing sound coming from the right side of the engine. (an electric fuel pump?) That would go on until I turned the key off and it wouldn't come back again until I tried to start the bike. I switched the fuel valve back and forth between on and reserve a few times and the bike eventually started. I rode back to where I was parked, another 45 minutes, with no problems. I am suspecting that I have something clogging my fuel intake tubes in the gas tank but I don't really know for sure. This bike had been sitting in a garage for a number of years and there may be some gunk in the tank. I don't have a manual, either owners or repair, so I don't know a lot about it. I would greatly appreciate any help/advice I can get.

You can find a maintenance manual, among many other parts, for your ATV here - 1987 Honda TRX350D FourTrax Foreman. Hope you get your problems cleared up.

Yes, I agree, gunk in the tank. Remove the tank and also take the filter stem out. This is where the fuel exits the tank. Make sure that is clean. Be careful cleaning it because with such an old machine, you may have trouble getting a new one. ok, then plug the hole where it came out with a cork or duct tape or somethimg. Then put a bunch of bolts & nuts in the tank and some sudsy HOT water and swish everything around. Drain it the water out and do it again and again. The inside of the tan is most likely rusty. Then dry it overnight. Make sure it is completely dry and then put some kreem in it. Read this.

I would seem to have it working
I took the fuel line apart and cleaned everying out. There was some gunk in the fuel filter and I cleaned that out. I wasn't able to get a new fuel filter without ordering it so I used carb cleaner spray and used it to clear out both the filter and the fuel lines. I went for a couple of rides over the L.D. weekend and had no problems at all. I will still change the fuel filter out but it looks like my problem is solved. Thank You for your help and suggestions.
