Default Honda Rincon - Rim leaks air in two spots. HELP!

Hey all!

I just got a new set of four Dunlop tires for my 650 Rincon Honda. Three of the four went on good and hold air fine. However, the 4th (rear) tire leaks all of the air out. I am wondering if anyone knows what might be going on.

Some variables that I can get out of the way...
- The tire is a 25X10X12 - the proper size for that rim and that atv. The tire is in great condition. New to me, probably less than 50 miles on it.
- The tire leaks from two spots... there are two little holes inside the lip of the rim, just inside the bead that look like they were drilled in by honda. The holes are 180 degrees apart, and on both sets of rims in the same place. Not certain why Honda put them there. That is the place the tire leaks from.
- the tires appears to be seated correctly and does not lead anywhere else from the rim. There are no holes in the tires and no gap in the tire valve.
-Not certain it matters, but I am sure that I put about 40lbs of air in the tires, way overinflated them at first. But, I don't think that would have broken them? Are the holes presure release holes for if the tires are ever overinflated??? Can I plug them somehow?

Anyone know what might be going on? Does anyone have a Honda ATV that can tell me why the two little holes are in the rim? How do I fix this problem? I would rather not buy a tube, but will if need be.

I had a similar problem when I installed new tires on my Rubicon except all four of the tires leaked air where the holes are at. I don't know what the deal with those holes are.

What I would do is buy some bead sealer from any auto parts store and either put a coat all the way around the rim or just put some where the holes in the rim are. I had to do this to all four tires and they do not leak at all. If one coat does not fix it, just put another coat on.

I'd use silicone instead of bead sealer.

Thanks guys. I will try that if my fix tonight does not work. I put in 24oz of slime (green stuff), blew it up to 36psi, and then rolled it around on the problem side of the rim for 2 hours over the holes while I....
  • Changed the spark plug
  • fixed the front brakes
  • changed the oil
  • refilled all the air in the other tires
  • fixed a bunch of broken wires and clips
  • and caressed my new ATV for 2 hours.

The tire is not leaking at the moments. I will check it again tomorrow.

I filled the holes with JB Weld. They have not leaked yet.

I think those holes are just into the hollow space made where the edge of the rim is rolled.

If it were mine I'd pull that tire off and closely inspect the tire and wheel for scratches, debris caught in there, or rubber flashing on the tire.
