hehe
this year im going to laugh at every 400ex i come across with a dead battery.
really whats so great about electric start? who wants the weight of the battery and another added headache? and if your starter dies does it bump start if there is no hill around? i see alot of people getting PO'ed because the 250R is going up in value well to bad! if they had one they would sing a different song.

I have a 400 ex and had a 250R until 2 weeks ago.I originally purchased my R brand new in 1986. I have had my 400 for 2 years now and love it. The 400 has much more versatility than my R did. Since I only have enough time to ride one quad I sold my R and spent the $$$ on upgrading the handling of my 400.

Well if I did do it I would have 660.00 to hop it up.the ONLY way I will do it is if he gives me 500.00 to.Plus I have 160.00.So that would be 660.00.I could get 6 ply razr's all the way around,AC pro pegs,ac swingarm skid,Pro circuit slip on.That is 200 for tires,190 for ac propegs,65 for swingarm skid,190 for silencer,so that is 645.and then I could save up some more for a K&N filter and then buy some jets.
Or how much is a 416 kit?

Someone is a fool to trade a $6,000.00 400EX for a $3,000.00 250R and give you $500.00 to boot. You are a fool if you don't trade. If you don't like the 400EX sell it and you will still have made a profit. Heck out here in Ca.I bought a 250R for $800.00 put a little $$$ into it and resold it for $2,000.00. A buddy of mine just bought an R for $1,600.00 bucks 6 months ago. With all the extra cash you could make any R like new.

I have a couple of things to say. The guy that says R's are only 3 grand is crazy I sold mine for 6500. He forgets that people put high dollar mods on them. My Pep shocks laeger A-Arms axle are close to 2000 alone. Not to mention the rest of the motor work exhaust, piston, carb, Nerfs, bumpers, bars etc etc....
Ok now that I have that cleared up. As I said I sold my R to get a 400ex. I set it up for mx by putting basically everything that was on my R plus a 440 kit. I LOVE my ex! For many reasons here is a few parts are CHEAP!!! compared to my R. Electric start is amazing. And who goes riding riding not just around the yard without a friend to pull start you and that is very dangerous if you do. The Four stroke is basically maintence free. And the major thing is that it is new. You dont have to worry about father time taking his toll on the machine.
Another thing you have to ask yourself how serious are you about racing. The most important question of all. If you are really serious about being a pro or something then keep the R. The pro's all race R's for a reason. But the ex is an excellent racer but also has the capabilities of being an all around fun maching racing, playing, trail riding, mudding.
I would trade my R for a 400ex any day depending on how much you have into your R. I hope this helped you out a little.

I was at the Ironman GNCC event in Crawfordsville, IN and watched 250R's spank 400EX's all day long. This is a track that has a lot of tight woods trails. My friend has a 400EX, it's cool and has zip, but I'm not overly impressed. JMHO. With that in mind, I think, if ridden correctly, the 250R can be just as good as a woods bike. I keep up with my buddies EX in the woods with no problem.

i hate to tell you this but a 400EX with no mods used is only worth $4500.00 max. i see them selling for this all the time. R's are still selling in crappy shape for there brand new price.
the 400ex is based on the 250R also just a cheaper version. that must tell you something. everyone base's there after market frames from a 250R. my second choice would have been a 400EX but working on a thumper motor just stinks. timing chains are not my thing
