Honda Fourtrax 200D Type II Starting Issues
#1
Hello All,
Aside from my introduction post, this is my first foray into the community. I have searched through the forums for related questions regarding a starting issue I am having with my Fourtrax 200 Type 2.
The machine has run perfect with little maintenance for the last year. I went to start last week and got a mild turnover with noticeable power loss then just clicking. I put the battery on the charger and later checked voltage which was nominal. I thought it might be the solenoid relay so I purchased an off brand replacement from EMS. Replaced the solenoid and the problem continues. Put the multimeter on the solenoid connections and it reads fine. I read about the classic "tappity tap" on the starter housing and that action, albeit gently, has had no effect.
The weatherproof plastic connection from the solenoid to the starter wire is slightly degraded. When connected, the power light on the dash lights up full and the accessories have full power.
I believe it must be the starter but I don't have much experienced with ATV starters. I got a great deal on the Fourtrax and really don't want to put a great deal of repair $$ into her (I am saving for a Foreman) but my main-use season is coming up and I need to fix. The local Honda dealer charges $75 per hour for labor so I must try to analyze and repair on my own. Any ideas? Thank you in advance and have a nice weekend.
