I have a 92 250x and my buddy has a 2000 300ex. Mine was bone stock when he got his. We raced both quads stock and mine pulls ahead after 3rd gear ALL the time. We have since done the exact same modifications to both bikes so there still is no difference. (FMF megamax II head pipe and silencer, carb rebuilds and jetting, K&N filter, airbox holes, aftermarket tires, ya know the usual performance stuff.) We have stock sprokets and no internal modifications. Well here we go...Mine rips now. I'm pulling ahead in 3rd now and I look BAAAAACK on top. I wanna know, why such an extreme difference? We switch bikes and he pulls away on mine so I know its not the rider. The only difference I see is that his has more bottom end in 2nd and 3rd gears, but once my 250x gets a little revs in it, she takes off. I've run against other 300ex's with the same results..alittle more bottom end then mine but I kill them up top. Even a 98 300ex bored .020 over with higher compression didnt stand up to mine. I'm not bragging but is there something in the gear boxes that make these perform different? Not that I wanna change this or anything. Let me hear your thoughts on this.

The 250X and the 300EX have the same bore but the X uses a higher compression piston and that and less weight due to the electric start is probly what makes it faster. Some EX riders use the X piston because of the higher compression to get some cheap power.

the 300ex has a different crank (I think) which moves the displacement up to 282cc. 300 just sounds better than 282.

as for the 250x beating the 300ex's; do you guys have the same size rear tire diameter? the 250x should be about 15 pounds lighter without the battery and starter motor. you think maybe that could be the difference? I dont know.

Well I tried something new this past weekend. Running with a 400ex. Granted it was a bone stock 400ex but I held my own. Only after 4th did the 400ex start to walk away but in the pit and trails who was all over the 400ex and then ahead? Oh the little 250x that could of course! Hopefully this summer I can put the 250x in another home and take in a new 400ex. I rode the 400ex and it was amuch better feel overall. The suspension and the handling were much better than the 250x. But for now I will terrorize everyone (except banshees, dang I hate that roost) with the 300ex killer.

If you REALLY want to stomp on some people get a big bore kit! I just got mine together and last weekend I topped out at 70MPH! I could hardly believe it myself. I know it's not the fastest machine out there but that aint bad for a little old 250x and I may still have some room to gear it up a little higher. Ofcourse I do have all the goodies on it but with doing all the work myself I still paid less than half of a new quad.

I don't mean to brag here but it's gonna be nice when I pull up next to a 400ex and see them laughing and then just dust him...hehe.
