OK, i'm not sure where to start here. The 2stroke is dying in the MX crowd?Watch any professional level race and see how much of a presence 4strokes have. The 426 and SX520 are embraced by the dirt bike crowd huh? What would you say the CR or KX are? Would you consider them embraced? For a person who isn't expierienced enough to keep a 250 on the pipe, then the 4strokes are more suited to them, but anyone worth their salt in the MX world can keep a 250 singing with a ridiculous amount of ease. And like I stated before you don't know what your talking about, so don't talk, you were so wrong about the race and racers it was actually funny.I mean you say a guy in third place who has been retired for a year! The CR is labled "Closed course" which means it is built exempt from EPA restrictions and meant for Closed course racing, you can buy one and use it for an end table if you want, but as far as Honda, they have built them for racing, so please take your foot out of your mouth. The CR is not an off road bike ( i can't believe i'm even saying this) and will continue to be EPA exempt for many many years. So please, please, do yourself a favor and stop talking about things you don't know.

Not JUST drags. Depends on who picks the course. Tight twisty trails with lots of jumps or MX track, yeah, the 400ex will most likely take me, depends on who's riding it. If I get to pick the course - muddy, rutted out, rocky, filled with mud holes and lots of nasty hill climbs and long straights - I will most likely take the 400ex. Every machine has it's capabilities. Mine simply has more overall than the 400ex. More top end, more bottom end, no need to shift gears and 4x4 that is just as fast as 2x4. I "just about" will not get stuck. I ride alot of places where my buddies on 400ex's, Banshee's and a couple of Quad Racers spend as much time getting unstuck as they do riding. Sometimes even having to find another way around or go ride another trail that isn't so rough.

Stock versus stock the 400ex wins, this is according to Dirt wheels a few years ago when they tested a Banshee,400ex and a 400 Polaris Sport. They dragged them and it was Banshee, then 400ex then Polaris. And on an MX dont even bring up a Polaris, its too heavy. Heck, the 400ex can beat a Raptor on MX with a good rider! The engines are powerful on the Polaris models, but the quads are too much modeled after a snowmobile.

Sharpe1,
FACT: The 400ex has more bottom end, and a higher top speed than the Scrambler 400! I don't know where you got your info from, but the only place a Scrambler400 will beat a 400ex is where the 4x4 comes into play.

The Polaris does not over shadow the EX in any catagory. Race results have proven this time, and time again. I am talking about REAL racing, not you and your buddies in your back yard. A Polaris 400 4x4 is not going to beat a 400ex in anything, not drags, not hare scrambles, not MX, not flat track, ect...... your power/weight ratio sucks!

Ok, i have to admit though, i wouldn't mind having a Polaris 4x4 on some muddy trails or for playing around in the muck, but still, all the Polaris models need to go on a diet.

FACT: A ex has more bottom end than a "stock" Scrambler 400. I thought you might take the time to look at the discription of my Scrambler at the bottom of my post. Mine is not stock. In stock form it put out around 37 hp. The pipe added another 9-10 to that. The V-force Reeds added another 3-5 to that (mostly on the bottom to mid). What kind of math are you comming up with? The clutch kit WAY improved the hit off the line from stock. I have to lean forward now every time I nail it off the line to keep it from comming over on me. I'll be the first to admit that in stock form the ex's out ran me everytime, and the Quad Racers and Banshees were a distant dream. Now, however, I can take any one of them off the line for at least 50 yards and beat the ex's evereytime. It's a very close race with the Quad Racers but the Banshee gets me everytime once he hits fourth. I hate them Banshee's. I'll also be the first to admit that my Scrambler sux on the track and is a hand full on the twisty trails. But, in the overall scheme of things, I can go more more places faster than any of the others. Believe me, I'm not bashing here. I love them all. I have a blast snapping through the gears on their quads and zipping through the stuff that is a real chore for my Scrambler as far as handling. I used to think Polaris quads were no fun to ride because of the auto tranny and weight, until I actually rode one. But for an "all around" quad that can take you anywhere fast, mine is hard to beat. The guys I ride with will even attest to that. There have been many times when they were glad to have me along to pull them out or tow them back.
