Im near the end of my rebuild on my 400ex... im installing the 4 bolts that hold the cylinder in place and the bolt on the right rear id sticking up past the cylinder deck by a small amount maybe 1/16" - 1/8".. isnt it sposed to be set in? all the other 3 are set in.

did you make sure the bolt holes were clean and had no debris inside? sometimes its a good idea to get a tap and die set and chase the holes before reinstalling the bolts, this will clean up slightly damaged threads, clean out any factory sealants like loctite, and give you a nice smooth internal surface to thread the studs and bolts into. Sounds like either the threads were boogered up,I have had a Yamha motor apart, but not a Honda, are all the bolts the same length? is is possible you put a long bolt in a shorter run hole? its either the threads or the bolt, I would take it back apart and verify all the bolts are equal, and run a tap to clean up the base holes.

I checked and all is good.. Just actually found the issue.. This cylinder came from a buddy, and it looks like he used a larger washer around the bolt then origional.. So the washer is stuck in the hole blocking the bolt from going all the way down.. (didnt notice cuz im doing this in a darkish garage).. So now i guess i gotta figure out howto free that washer and get it out of the hole.

If it is loose in the hole, try a pick with a hook on the end and see if you can pull it out. If it is tight in there, try a drill bit just a touch bigger than the inside of the washer, it should grab it and pull it right out.

Yeah its tight, drill bit sounds like a great idea, thanks for the response! Also got a quick question, im gonna be running 426 at 11:1 compression, would 94 octane work for this? Dont have easy access to 100+

With 11:1, you might even get by with the 91-92 octane premium they sell at the gas station, anything above that, and I'm pretty sure you are looking at race gas, or putting octane boost in every tank, not cheap either way.
