Is a rebuild out of the question? Might be a better option and you know what you are getting. Start with craigs list and ebay.

Not that mechanically inclined, but I did tear down the top end and it appears that the timing chain was hitting the valve cover and causing alot of metal shavings inside the motor. The timing chain also tore up the plastic that runs up it. Does any one know what could have caused this? Could it be that my cam is warped? The motor starting having a clanging noise real bad for about 2 weeks before it went out. I thought it was the valves. The intake valves are charred looking and so is the top of the piston. If anyone has any info please resond... I really miss riding it. Also if any one knows any links on how to completely over haul the motor and change the gears in the tranny that, would be awesome... Thanks.

Odds are the cam chain is stretched out. Thats why it was making that noise, it also destroyed the guides and mabey the tensioner. If thats all its not to hard of a fix and not to expensive. I would find a manual on line and read up on it to see if it is a project you could handle.

What would have caused it to stop running?

Timing? Kind of a tough question for me to answer with the info given. Got some close up pics of everything you found?
