Hi,

We have an 88 Honda 300 2x4 atv at our cottage, it shifts up nice and smooth, but the down shifts are hard and sometimes bang.

I was thinking the auto clutch needs adjustment, but I am not sure if I need in 'Increase' or 'Decrease' play?

Just before you downshift, blip the throttle to relieve the pressure between the gears. Try that.

 

May also have too much free play on change clutch adjustment.
