I just bought a 2005 recon es and am very pleased with it. 1250 is a good price too. If it has been sitting for a year i would make sure the carburetor is cleaned and in good shape. If you find that you cannot shift, which is what happened to me when i first got it, the rpm's need to be under 3,000 in order to shift out of nuetral. All i had to do was adjust the idle screw and I was good to go.

Good price on a bulletproof quad. Might need to clean the carb. ES is pretty much trouble free unless you submerge the quad a lot. The angle sensor is in front. Keep it sealed with RTV. Tires are the most expensive wear item on a quad. They may be a negotiation point for you. 4 new tires for that quad will top $400 - $450 installed. Front brakes on the Recon are crap but still work ok. Keep them adjusted high and you'll be fine.

I had the first ES system on my 2000 450 Foreman I sold it to a friend and its still going good. I had to take a fuse from under the seat and reinstall it once in awhile which fixed its no shifting problem for some reason. I think your 2004 would have a more improved es system though because Honda did improve on it.
