Default 2002 Honda Rubicon 500

I have a 2002 Honda Rubicon 500
I am having an issue it seems with fuel.
ATV will start and idle ok; also if you pull out the choke you can accelerate the motor. But as soon as you give the unit gas from idle, it kills the motor.
I have cleaned the carb and checked the fuel take for obstacles. Still dies when you give it gas.
Any Ideas?

please define "cleaned the carburetor". so you removed the jets and physically cleaned them. not just sprayed the guts of the carb with carb cleaner, right?

Actually just removed the top of the carb and the rubber diaphragm and sprayed. Also tried to adjust the carb.
This all started at one time.
I was riding the unit and came to a stop. Started accelerating from 1st to 2nd and the unit just shut down.

Will idle fine but dies as soon as I press the gas.

take the carb off and clean the components. you may have pulled in some solids into the jets from the tank. change out your fuel filter also.

I plan to take the carb off and clean this weekend.
Though I could not find that there was a fuel filter.
There is nothing inline on the hose. Could this be stored within the fuel tank itself?
I really appreciate your help.

It may be cause of not sufficient amount of fuel taken by machine which break down the process check whether the flow of fuel is proper.

well he can check the float/needle valve operation when he pulls the carb. good point. the valve would need to be cleaned anyways!

agree 100% with everything jaster has posted.

gotta be real thorough when cleaning those carbs-
the smallest smount of varnish or dirt in any of the jets will cause it to run like you described.

you should empty at least an entire can of carb cleaner and punch every jet out good.

I am fairly mechanically inclined. Though have never opened this kind of a carburetor. Is there anything in particular that I will be looking for when I take the bottom off of the carburetor?

there are several videos on how to clean a carb. now i know the carb in this video is not identical to your carb but the principle is the same. look at the needle valve/seat, float assembly. check that for proper operation and cleanliness. next pull the jets and as beergut said, clean them thoroughly. i use compressed air, carb cleaner, and an oxy/acetylene torch tip cleaner pack. as you can tell, the cleaner tips can get into the orifices. use them. i use a Qtip and cleaner for the valve seat area where the valve operates. it's got to be just about factory clean. then you should be good to go.don't forget to go down the center of the jets and make sure you see daylight through all orifices.
