2001 Honda Recon
#1
Well guys I have some questions about the Honda Recon. My friend wants to know how good of an ATV it is and how it holds up? I told him that it would most likely last for years since its a Honda. He also wants to know how the acceleration is on the Recon? One of his major concerns is if the Recon is to small for him. He is 5'9" tall and weights about 152.5 pounds so is he to big for the Recon? Thanks guys for your help. Matt

400ex,
Well instead of rambling on for paragraphs about the recon being overall the best quad in its class, let me comment one one of your inquiries. I bought a recon for my wife last month. I drove all the bikes in the 250-300 class and for to many reasons to list the recon was my choice.(I am getting long winded allready) As far as your buddies size, I got into a discussion a few weeks ago in one of these forums about a guy who was 6'2" 220lbs give or take on these measurments, Anyhow he was worried about being to big for the recon. I was one of about 10 that replied and stated that I am 5'7' 175lbs and I think its a bit small for me. Belive me I have a blast on her recon and enjoy it a little more than my 4x. Well the other 9 or so replies told him that they were realitive to his size and had no problems being to big. I bought a rancher for me and know that I will never outgrow it. So take this reply for what its worth. But you cant bet on the recon to be the best quad in its class.

I own a 1997 RECON which has proved very durable and fun to ride. My sons 13 & 15 ride it most of the time and also my wife. I have changed oils and battery only, the thing is the perfect kids quad. However for and adult I would recommend the RANCHER as the RECON is on the small side. It has good power for a 250, smokes any timberwolf of beartracker on the trails and in the mud.My 15yr old loves it and he is about the same size as your friend.

I'm also 5'9" but 195 lbs. I have a '99 Recon, and it has been an excellent bike. I rode it almost every weekend after I bought it April 1, '99 (Just ask my wife, she'll tell you) and put a ton of miles on it. I have had to replace the clutches in it, but again, I rode it a lot, and hard too. I would recommend it to anyone. I never felt cramped on it. It seems to fit me just fine, even after riding my 400EX.

Why not get a 250EX? it is a better machine. If you ride with people with bigger machines the Recon might not be for you. We had one in our circle he since traded it in for a Rancher 4x4, which he likes much better. He could not keep up and not so much the speed , but the terrain, if it got rough he got bounced around allot. We always had to wait up for him. The 250EX is supposed to have better suspension something the Recon needs. now i know coming from me a Polaris guy with a great suspension system on my machine i have a hard time riding much of anything without wanting my Sportsman back big time. but just telling you what my experience has been with them. The Rancher is a much better, or even the 250EX, but if he does not ride with larger maxhined, more aggressive riders he should be fine with it.
