Steps for starting a stored Recon 250
#1
OK, my girlfriend came with 2 bikes
but, they have been sitting for a few years. everything was fine on the bikes she just quit riding. she kept one with her in the garage (99 Recon 250) and the other was on her small trailer at a friends property wrapped in a tarp. That bike she thinks is a yamaha 450? cant remember exactly and its a little bit of a trip and not worried right yet about it. Anyway, about the Recon so what are the common practices of getting one back to life. She didnt fog the engine or even run the gas out of carb so I know a good carb cleaning and tank clean, drain the oil add new. I heard to put a little oil in the sparkplug hole and pull the pull start slowly so the cylinder walls can get some around them. Any truth to this??
new diff fluid, atleast Im assuming it has some its a straight axle. needs a battery and key switch since she lost the key, new plug, air filter and change the brake fluid. Any other tips you fellas can help me out with?? hopefully the starter isnt frozen. Ill take the wheels off and repack the bearings too I guess. Its in very good condition so its worth a few bucks to get running again.
Thanks for any input

you've probably got it going by now, but sounds like your on the right track. as for putting oil in your spark plug hole, you're probably going to burn it up and get very little on the cylinder walls. maybe give it a couple pulls/cranks with the plug wire off to get the oil circulating before actually starting it. and also, change it again after the first ride to help flush it out since the recons don't have a filter.
